Passage One
Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage。
In the early days of the internet察many people worried that as people in the rich world embraced new computing and communications technologies察people in the poor world would be left stranded on the wrong side of a ^digital divide。 ̄ Yet the debate over the digital divide is founded on a myth!that plugging poor countries into the internet will help them to become rich rapidly。
This is highly unlikely察because the digital divide is not a problem in itself察but a symptom of deeper察more important divides此of income察development and literacy。 Fewer people in poor countries than in rich ones own computers and have acomess to the internet simply because they are too poor察are illiterate察or have other more immediate concerns察such as food察health care and security。 So even if it were possible to wave a magic wand and cause a computer to appear in every household on earth察it would not achieve very much此a computer is not useful if you have no food or electricity and cannot read。 Yet such wand´waving!through the construction of specific local infrastructure projects such as rural telecenters!is just the sort of thing for which the UN¨s new fund is intended。
This sort of thing is the wrong way to go about addressing the inequality in acomess to digital technologies此it is treating the symptoms察rather than the underlying causes。 The benefits of building rural computing centers察for example察are unclear。 Rather than trying to close the divide for the sake of it察the more sensible goal is to determine how best to use technology to promote bottom´up development。 And the answer to that question turns out to be remarkably clear此by promoting the spread not of PCs and the internet察but of mobile phones。

Passage Two
Questions 26 to 30 are based on the following passage。
^Someday察院Andy Warhol once mused察 all department stores will become museums察and all museums will become department stores。 ̄ If this has not happened literally察it has practically。 Look at the recent debut of a shop´within´a´shop at the SoHo branch of the MoMA Design Store此the first North American Muji outlet。 A consumer´goods chain with 280 stores in Japan察Muji has managed to stake out space in something so presumably untouchable as a museum design boutique partly because the 270 or so objects for sale in the SoHo store are ^appealing察useful and essential ̄ items for the ^design´savvy consumer。 ̄ These include office supplies and storage pieces察but also items like a very clever set of 42 cardboard speakers。 The Muji style is sleek察clean察unfussy and察at least by some standards察affordable。
The name Muji is a shortening of Mujirushi Ryohin察which translates to ^no´brand goods。 ̄ Emphasizing quality design察sensible use of materials and utilitarian practicality察Muji uses the slogan ^Lower Priced for a Reason。 ̄ While the stereotype of the logo´ obsessed Japanese consumer lingers察unadorned Muji has thrived。 In fact察from the original line of 40 Muji products察the company now offers more than 5000 ! everything from clothing to bicycles to furniture to packaged food。
Museum stores have lately become more savvy about selling consumer furniture made by the same famous designers exhibited in ac
